Hi, The states between 3 and 16 characters The does not say. I currently have one Screen Name that is an @Mac.com one that is 21 characters including the suffix. As AIM allows you to use the @ symbol email addresses are allowed to be Screen Names (they must do as they allow both @me.com and @Mac.com as well as several other ISPs across the States to do this) (I have also seen a Hotmail address registered this way).
If you registered an @googlemail.com you would 'use' 14 characters just with the suffix. I an also recall, back in the early days of iChat 3, an issues where by @Mac.com users at the time that had 12 or more characters before the @ suffix could not connect to the AIM servers (this may have had something to do with any 20 character limit there might have been). Have this Online Registration page (Somewhat unusual) but lists no Character limit. Most other server require you use a dedicated Jabber app (contains the Registration module) and I don't remember ever seeing or coming across a limit.
The only hard and fast thing I know about is the restriction of any AIM login to 16 characters max in the password. Most likely this is an issues with what iChat sends as the Password rather than the AIM servers inability to check with outside servers like @mac.com or @me.com The AIM App tends to come the same way MSN does it that there are certain items in the Buddy list that are in fact adverts. I know MSN almost always insists in also opening a page in the Web browser that is full of adverts. (I have not run the AIM for Mac apps for some while) The Chinse based QQ app is also full of adverts an links to things like On-Line games I can't speak for qnext. Looking at their site it seems it is a JAVA engineered version of iChat.
It would be interesting to know if it really support GoogleTalk and Jabber in Video as Google's version of the Jingle Library tends not support connections to other Jabber apps (it may be like iChat in that it uses one format to contact other qnext users and can only do a few qnext to Another app connections in Video). On the other note of organising lots of people. Once they know there is going to be a regular chat, then they will be available. 8:36 PM Monday; February 14, 2011 Please, if posting Logs, do not post any Log info after the line 'Binary Images for iChat'. Hi, iChat if you are all on Macs 🙂 See this section items 5 though 8 See 9 through 12 for Web Browser ways (Beware there is a issue currently using the Google Web Browser Plug-in and then Flash based sites) Also Mebeam has changed it's Name to Koowy (as in - to Call for attention ) Item 13 Does cost but is cheap and has Windows and Mac versions (The 'Pro' version that is 'on sale' is version 3.2 and would be good enough) They also offer s Free Web Browser alternative. I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.
